New Years Eve

We both worked during the day on New Years Eve and had no real plans for the evening except wander around the bars and see what was what and then watch the fireworks from somewhere, all very vague!
I got in from work and enjoyed some (M&S!) wasabi peas and some ginger lime cider to start the evening while I waited for Stephen to come home.
He came home with the excellent idea of going to the Globe since they were open as normal and we like it a lot so we got on a bus and arrived in time for happy hour, perfect.

A seat at the bar and reasonably priced food and drinks - what more could you want on NYE!?
And since it was NYE we decided to treat ourselves to PIE, something we'd not had yet in HK.

It was FAB! I'd heard good things about the pies here but thought they might not be on top form with it being a busy evening but they certainly were - just what we were after!!

Since we were comfortably settled we thought we might as well make our way through the extensive beer menu.

New favourite cider
They were also celebrating the new year as it arrived in various places so we celebrated at 9pm for Sydney (complete with party poppers and the BBC footage of the fireworks!) 9.30pm in Adelaide, Tokyo, Seoul, you get the idea.... Anyway it was good fun and a good atmosphere!

Stephen getting in to the party spirit!
About 11:30pm we walked down to the waterfront to watch the fireworks. With hindsight we should probably have stayed in the warm in the pub, watched the fireworks on TV and drunk champagne with everyone else since the fireworks were a tad disappointing! I think we were expecting great things (given they make them in China!) but it was a whole lot of nothing really. It looks impressive from certain viewpoints but they were quite low fireworks, rather than up in the air big bang ones so from where we were we didn't see much! A few people have said they were disappointed though so it wasn't just us, fingers crossed we really will get to see one of these amazing displays we've heard so much about over Chinese New Year!

Never mind - we had a great night anyway just chilling in a nice pub (you could basically have been in England!) enjoying good food and drink (and each others company of course!).

After the fireworks we jumped over the barrier onto the main road and straight in a taxi home, no messing or queueing!

Super cool glasses we got at the races!
Waiting for the fireworks (hats and hoodies but still no coat!) with a cool backdrop.
Our view of the fireworks... we were expecting them to be a bit higher!!
